R is the formal manifestation of the desire for self-protection, including personal safety, security, and nurture. The folding over of itself as if an envelope or wrap includes the aforementioned “soft” attributes of self-protection, and also “hard” attributes of self-protection, such as various aspects of selfishness (self-centeredness/self-interest/narcissism). Its swaddling is emblematic of a craving for what is often referred to as a psychologically safe space; also, a commitment to a comfortable, and likely self-serving, status quo.
